Occurrence: Immunophenotyping was performed on a fresh bone marrow specimen. In the forward and side scatter fields, it was difficult to define a mononuclear cell population. In the CD45 and side scatter gate, there was a population with a low expression of CD45 and side scatter properties. In the lymphoblastoid gate, there was a population of immmature myeloid cells with the following phenotype consisting of 75% of the total cells: CD34-, CD33+, CD13-, CD14-, HLA-DR+, CD56-, CD117 +/-, CD19-, and CD10-.
Differential diagnosis: Immunophenotyping results are indicative of an acute myeloid leukemia with 75% blast cells.
