Comment on this image collection: The bone marrow was hypercellular for a patient of this age. The marrow was almost entirely composed of a blast population of different sizes, but with little cytoplasm. There are a few blasts with nicked nuclei. There are no Auer rods noted.
The findings are compatible with an acute leukemia. However, further differentiation by morphology is not possible. For further classification, one is referred to the results of immunophenotyping.
